After a relaxing Friendsgiving weekend bonding with my kasamas, it’s time to get back to organizing! Here are a few things coming up this month.
Please check back regularly as this page will be updated as more events are confirmed.
Malaya Movement Baltimore is hosting a banner making workshop. Bring your friends and creativity to help us make placards and banners. Let's paint all our rebellion and get ready for some protest! We will be making artwork to bring with us to the action the following day in DC (see below).
Date: Friday, December 6, 2019
Time: 6:30 - 10:00 PM
Place: The Copycat Building, 1501 Guilford Ave. Baltimore, MD
If you would like to contribute to the workshop with some of your resources, please feel free to bring tempura paint, fine-tipped paint brushes, posterboards, fabrics, or anything useful for making banners.
Malaya Movement is a U.S.-based movement against the extrajudicial killings and authoritarianism in the Philippines and aims to advance the cause of human rights, freedom and democracy.
International Human Rights Day is observed on December 10th. This date marks December 10th 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration was the result of the experience of the second world war. It is considered a milestone document in the history of human rights. After the end of the war, and the creation of the United Nations, the international community vowed never again to allow atrocities like those of that conflict happen again.
On Saturday, December 7th, join Baltimore and DC-based organizations in commemorating International Human Rights Day by amplifying the calls of our communities in defense of the increasing violent attacks against our peoples and the planet for the sake of profit. We will be rallying at Columbus Circle at Union Station from 12 NOON - 2 PM. Bring signs and banners!
Points of Unity
1. We stand for the people to fight for the defense of human rights.
2. We stand for environmental justice and the protection of our planet.
3. We stand for the prioritization of the environment and the people over profit and greed.

Know history, know self. No history, no self.
This course is Part 1 of a series. Join Malaya Movement Baltimore in a crash course on the history of the Philippine people through an in-depth analysis of Philippine society, colonization and where we are today!
To truly and correctly serve the people, we must learn our history. Understanding and appreciating our people's rich history will empower and unleash collective strength of the Filipino diaspora to create positive changes for our communities in the U.S. and in our homeland the Philippines!
Childcare will be provided. Please let us know ahead of time how many children you will be bringing.

I usually do a write up of the events I’ve organized or hosted and my most-read articles at the end of the year. This was an unusual year (obviously, there is no need to go into it here) so I didn’t bother. Instead I want to highlight a project of mine that I am particularly proud of — it’s my new podcast show, Unverified Accounts, that I cohost with my frequent collaborators, Chris Jesu Lee and Filip Guo. If you're a big movie/TV/book buff, have leftist sympathies, but can't stand 'wokeness' dumbing down our culture, then we're the podcast for you. So far in our 25 episodes, we’ve covered a range of contentious topics.
