The 80s are BACK. Every era's fashion gets a resurrection, so it's no surprise that 2017 is expected to usher in the resurgence of 80s fashion. Instagram fashion is moving towards the disgusting ugliness of the early aughts (excuse me while I vomit) but high fashion is moving towards the amazing decade of decadence. It's about time to embrace decadence and flamboyance. Didn't I predict this in August when I started sewing pointy shoulder pads into all my jackets and tops? Didn't I predict this when me and Sarah Vitek chopped off 8 inches of my hair so I could channel Lucky Star-era Madonna? Didn't I? I love it when I'm right. :)
The goal with every comeback is to take the best of that era's fashion and make it better. Here are the things I'm looking forward to making a comeback: multi-colored Chuck Taylor high-tops, crimped hair, new wave hairstyles, jelly shoes, skirts made entirely of tulle, zippered ankles, jelly bracelets, leg warmers, blue eyeshadow, teased up hair, pointy shoulder pads, metallic fabrics.
"It all sort of makes a bit of sense. We'll have a controversial celebrity turned Republican politician in the White House. Popular music is as synth-heavy as it's ever been since that decade. People are actually excited about new Star Wars movies. Stranger Things is the most buzzed about show of the year. Makeup on men is an even bigger trend than it was during the glam rock heyday. Hell, Hollywood is even rebooting Dynasty." - W Magazine
Just because a certain decade comes back into style doesn't mean you go all costume-y. You still have to modernize the look. With the help of Kate and Angie from Milk & Ice Vintage in Baltimore, we put together this Desperately Seeking Susan-inspired editorial for your viewing pleasure.
