I did it for Prince.
About a week and a half ago, I went purple. Four jars of Manic Panic Mystic Heather have been sitting under my sink since last summer and I've been debating dyeing my hair purple for as long as I can remember. Part of my skepticism comes from a failed attempt at going purple in high school, involving grape Kool Aid and an entire wasted weekend spent removing the damage from my head and the bathroom. Two very good arguments convinced me to finally pull the trigger and go purple: the Amazon.com reviews of Manic Panic hair dyes and the voice inside my head that kept telling me, "It's what Prince would want."
I like how it came out. I feel like a unicorn. There's some dark purple, some lighter purple, as well as my own dark hair and some highlighted blonde bits showing through. Since I prefer a multi-dimensional hair color, it's perfect for me. I should have mentioned that a couple of days prior to going purple, I also got my hair highlighted at a salon. Pro tip: do not bleach your hair on your own, especially if your starting point is as dark as mine.
